Iona Men's Qualify for 2015 NCAA Cross Country Championships

EDISON, NJ – The 2015 NCAA Northeast Regional for Men’s and Women’s Cross Country hosted by Boston University was held at the historic Franklin Park in Boston, Massachusetts, began with the women’s 6k race at 12:00 p.m. followed by the men’s 10k race at 1:00 p.m.  The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) had eight of 11 institutions represented for both the men’s and women’s races with Canisius College, Fairfield University, Iona College, Manhattan College, Marist College, Niagara University, Quinnipiac University and Siena College all competing.

In the women’s race, top finishers from the MAAC included Quinnipiac sophomore Emily Wolff who finished 35th and Iona senior Tara Jameson who finished 37th out of 257 runners.  Iona finished 13th and Quinnipiac finished 18th in the field. 

On the men’s side, the Iona Gaels finished second overall with six of their runners finishing in the top 25. Junior Kieran Clements lead the way finishing in fourth place followed by sophomore Gilbert Kirui (sixth), MAAC Champion Mike O’Dowd (seventh), sophomore Chartt Miller (10th), Brendon Allen (13th), and freshman Liam Dee (22nd). 

In the Mid-Atlantic Regional for Cross Country at Princeton University in New Jersey, Monmouth University and Rider University represented the MAAC. Rider senior Emily Ritter finished in 20th place to earn All-Region honors and senior Nicole Mateescu finished 35th. Rider finished 14th, while Monmouth followed in 19th.

In the men’s race, Monmouth placed 17th and Rider finished 19th out of 25 teams.

To automatically qualify for the 2015 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships, a team must finish top two in the region and to individually qualify, a runner must have a top 25 regional finish. 

The 2015 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Cross Country will take place on Saturday, November 21 and will be hosted by the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky with the women’s 6k race beginning at 12:00 p.m. and the men’s 10k race starting at 1:00 p.m.
