Grimme and Martin Earn First Women's Basketball Weekly Awards

Player of the Week

Kayla Grimme, Manhattan

So., C, 6-2, Altoona, PA/Altoona Area

Grimme nearly had a triple-double in the Jaspers’ season-opening 85-78 win at Fairleigh Dickinson on Nov. 14.  She finished with 11 points and a career-high 14 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive glass, for her fifth career double-double.  Grimme also had a career-high seven blocks, one shy of the single-game program record, as Manhattan established a new school mark with 13 total blocks in the victory.

 

Rookie of the Week

Brittany Martin, Quinnipiac

Fr., G, 5-6, Sicklerville, NJ /Timber Creek

Brittany Martin finished with 16 points, two rebounds and one assist in 29 minutes at Army West Point. Starting in her first career game, Martin finished 4-for-8 from the floor, 2-for-3 from three and 6-for-6 at the free throw line on the way to her 16-point game. Martin’s 16 points represent the most points scored by a QU freshman in their first game as a Bobcat since her sister Jasmine Martin ’15 posted 20 back on Nov. 11, 2011.
