Rider's Martir and Marist Trio Earn Weekly Swimming & Diving Awards

Men’s Swimmer of the Week

Matthan-Matthew Martir, Rider

Jr., 6-0, Severn, MD/Old Mill

Martir helped score 38 of Rider’s 185 points in a win over MAAC rival Marist. He accumulated three individual first place finishes and was also a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay that broke a Rider pool record in a time of 1:33.29. His first individual win came when he broke his second pool record of the day in the 50-yard freestyle clocking in at 20.97 seconds. To finish off the day, Martir also won the 100-yard freestyle (46.54) and the 100-yard butterfly (51.00) to help the Broncs remain undefeated in dual meet season.

Men’s Diver of the Week

Josh Dodway, Marist

Sr., 5-8, Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna

Dodway posted a personal best score of 323.20 points on the 1-M during Marist’s loss to Rider. His score was good enough for a first place finish and was 20 points higher than his NCAA Zone Meet qualifying performance last week. He also posted a second place finish at 3-M with a score of 274.70 points.

Women’s Swimmer of the Week

Bethany Powhida, Marist

Sr., 5-6, Delmar, NY/Bethlehem

Powhida won three events, helping Marist earn 27 points in a 192-102 win over MAAC foe Rider. Her first win came when she set a new conference best time for the 2015-16 season of 1:55.12 in the 200-yard freestyle. Powhida also took first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:06.13) and 200-yard backstroke (2:04.61) events as the Red Foxes remain unbeaten in conference meets this season. She anchored Marist’s winning 400-yard freestyle relay clocking in at 3:42.11 to conclude the meet.  

Women’s Diver of the Week

Renata Diotalevi, Marist

Sr., 5-5, Madison, CT/Daniel Hand

Diotalevi took the top spot on the 1- and 3-M boards, leading 1-2-3 Marist finishes in a 192-102 Red Foxes win at Rider. The Marist victory was the women’s program’s 100th under Head Coach Larry VanWagner and Diving Head Coach Melanie Bolstad. Diotalevi scored 256 points at 1-M and 258.35 points at 3-M to help Marist remain unbeaten in MAAC competition this season.
