Niagara Upsets Defending Champion Siena in Opening Round

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The sixth seeded Niagara University Purple Eagles upset the number three seed and defending MAAC Volleyball Champions Siena Saints in straight sets in the opening round of the 2015 MAAC Volleyball Championship. Niagara last beat the Saints on October 21, 2012 in five sets.
The Purple Eagles were led by Alexis Gray, who posted a double-double with 33 assists and 10 digs. Rayenne Hale added 12 kills and nine digs. The 2015 MAAC Libero of the Year, Rylee Hunt recorded 13 digs in the upset victory. Niagara won each set with a score of 25-16, 25-23, and 25-19, respectively. The Purple Eagles will now face number two seed Marist College on Saturday, November 21 at 8:00 p.m. on ESPN3.
For the Saints, the 2015 MAAC Setter of the Year, Haley Howell posted a double-double with 29 assists and 11 digs. Briana Flagg, the 2015 MAAC Volleyball Player of the Year had 11 kills to go along with eight digs.
