Fairfield University Wins 2015 MAAC Volleyball Championship

LOUDONVILLE, NY –Fairfield University is the 2015 MAAC Volleyball Champions after defeating number two seed Marist College in four sets. The Stags won the first two sets 26-24, and 25-19. Marist rallied to win the third set 25-19. The Stags closed the match out with a 25-23 win in the fourth and final set.
The Stags were the regular season champions in the MAAC and are now eight time MAAC Volleyball Champions. They last won the championship in 2013 when they beat Marist College. Megan Theiller was named Most Valuable Player. Theiller posted 22 kills and 11 digs while hitting .270. Skyler Day and Megan O’Sullivan were selected to the All-Tournament Team. Day recorded a double-double with 15 digs and 11 kills. O’Sullivan hit .294 to go along with 14 kills. Libero Taylor Rudeen led the match with 28 digs.
During this championship weekend, the team that won the first set would go onto to win the match. That proved true today as Fairfield took the first set and would win the championship match over Marist. The Stags will now earn a bid into the NCAA Volleyball Tournament. The NCAA Volleyball Selection Show takes place on Sunday, November 29 at 9 p.m. on ESPNU.
Marist College senior Kelsey Lahey became the sixth player in program history to reach 1,000 for her career. Lexi Millington and Kelsey Ediger were named to the All-Tournament Team. Millington had 26 digs, five assists and two service aces. Ediger had 26 digs and 12 kills to earn All-Tournament honors.
