Player of the Week
Melissa McGwin – Niagara
R-Sr., MB, 6-3, Rochester, NY/Coastal Carolina
Senior Melissa McGwin led the Purple Eagles in kills with 4.17 per set and in points with 5.17 per set while averaging 1.3 blocks per set to help Niagara to a 2-1 week. In the four-set win at Canisius, McGwin led the match with a career-high 20 kills and a career-high .514 hitting percentage, the highest by a Purple Eagle this season, to go along with one block and four block assists. McGwin had a team-high 13 kills and six total blocks in Niagara’s four-set win at Quinnipiac on Saturday. McGwin finished the three-match week by leading the Purple Eagles in kills for the third straight match with 17 kills and added five blocks at Fairfield on Sunday.
Libero of the Week
Taylor Rudeen - Fairfield
Fr., LIB, 5-8, San Pedro, CA/ Bishop Montgomery
Taylor Rudeen led the Fairfield back row from the libero spot in two MAAC wins. Rudeen averaged 6.71 digs per set and filled out the statsheet with three aces and three assists in seven sets of action. In Saturday’s sweep of Canisius, Rudeen led all players with 23 digs. She also sered up an ace and handed out one assist in the three-set win. In the 3-1 victory over Niagara on Sunday, Rudeen added 24 digs with a pair of service aces and two assists
Rookie of the Week
Amanda Gannon – Iona
Fr., OH, 5-11, Kings Park, NY/Kings Park
Freshman outside hitter Amanda Gannon was the Gaels top offensive performer in a 1-1 performance vs. two of the three MAAC teams atop the standings following this weekend's play. Gannon recorded an 11-kill, 18-dig double-double, her fourth of the season in a four-set battle with Marist Saturday. She hit .241 and was two-shy of her season-high dig total. In the Gaels triumph over first-place Siena, Gannon posted eight kills and had 15 digs to go along with a block and two aces. For the weekend, she posted a team best 18 kills and 33 digs, the highest non-libero total for the Maroon & Gold. She averaged 2.38 kills and 4.12 digs per set.
