#6 Siena College Defeats #11 Niagara University 1-0 in Opening Round Action

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – The first game of the 2015 Men’s Soccer Championship saw sixth seeded Siena College defeat eleventh seeded Niagara University 1-0 after Peter Gadze of Siena scored in the 60th minute. Siena will now face third seeded Marist College on Friday, November 6 at 11:00 a.m.
Gadze’s goal was unassisted and came on a strike from 25 yards inside the left post. Despite outshooting the Saints, 12-5, the Purple Eagles were unable to put one in the back of the net. Siena goalkeeper Gianni Carillo recorded 5 saves in the shutout. The fifth and final save of the contest for Carillo came with 1:11 left on the game clock when he stopped a shot by Niagara’s Brennan Koslow. Niagara’s Brandon Galanti led the game with four shot attempts.
As a team, Niagara recorded 12 total shots with 5 shots on goal. Siena attempted six shots, with two shots on goal. Carillo earned his sixth win this season in the goal for Siena. He will look to have a repeat performance against third seeded Marist tomorrow in a rivalry game. Siena was victorious against the Red Foxes 1-0 back on October 21.
