Quinnipiac Defeats Canisius 1-0 in Opening Round of Men's Soccer Championship

The second game in the opening round of the 2015 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship ended with tenth seeded Quinnipiac University defeating seventh seeded Canisius College at the ESPN Wide World of Sports by a 1-0 score.
Quinnipiac jumped out to a lead in the 29th minute after Bobcats sophomore midfielder Max Rothenbucher scored from outside the box on an assist by freshman midfielder Matt Taylor, the goal was Rothenbucher’s second of the season. The first half saw the Bobcats outshoot the Griffins 5-4. In the second half, Canisius lead in shots, finishing the game with 11.
Quinnipiac sophomore William Pustari had two shots, while Canisius’ Melvin Blair had three shots of Canisius’ total of eleven. Quinnipiac goalkeeper Triston Henry notched his fifth shutout of the season with five saves and earned his second win in the goal for the Bobcats.
With the win, the Bobcats avenge a regular season loss against Canisius that happened back on October 17 when the Griffins were victorious 1-0.
Quinnipiac faces second seeded Rider University on Friday, November 6 in a game that will be aired on ESPN3 at 11:15 a.m. The winner of that game will earn a bid in the semifinal of the 2015 Men’s Soccer Championship that will take place on Sunday, November 8.
