2015 Men's Soccer Major Awards Announced

EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced the 2015 men’s soccer major award winners and All-MAAC teams, as selected by the leagues 11 head coaches.
The MAAC First team is highlighted by the 2015 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year, Marcos Nunez from Iona College. Nunez led the MAAC in points per game with a 1.33 average, he was tied for first in the conference with 8 assists on the season, while leading the MAAC with 0.53 assists per game. Nunez is currently 11th in the NCAA in total assists. Joining him on the first team is his teammate Daniel Huertas, who was selected as the 2015 MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year. Rider’s Florian Valot and Monmouth’s Dave Nigro round out the first team forwards. Nigro’s teammates, Anderson Asiedu and Colin Stripling are two of the four midfielders to make the MAAC First team. The Rider duo of Jose Aguinaga and Christian Flath are the other two midfielders. The First team backs include the Defensive Player of the Year, David Acuna Camacho from Monmouth. His teammate, Derek Luke also made the First team to go along with Abraham Bartoah of Manhattan and Sonimi Halliday from Rider.
Monmouth University teammates, junior goalkeeper Eric Klenofsky and senior David Acuna Camacho were selected as the MAAC Goalkeeper and Defensive Player of the Year respectively. He was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week 3 times this season. Klenofsky tied for the MAAC lead with 7 shutouts this season while recording 61 saves for an average of 3.39 per game. He ranked second in the conference with a 0.89 goals against average and is climbing the MAAC record books for most career wins by a goalkeeper. Camacho had 4 assists, two goals totaling 8 points on the season. Both goals were game-winners. He was also a perfect two for two on penalty kicks this season while playing strong defense for the Hawks this season
The MAAC Co-Rookies of the Year are Cameron Harr from Marist College and Daniel Huertas from Iona. Harr finished second in the conference with eight goals and was sixth in the MAAC with 16 points. Huertas finished first in the MAAC with 23 points, 9 goals, 4.28 shots per game, 1.28 points per game, to go along with 4 game winning goals.
Robert McCourt of Monmouth College was named the Lids Team Sports MAAC Coach of the Year by his peers. McCourt led the Hawks to a 7-0-3 league mark for 24 points and a 11-3-4 overall record. McCourt led the Hawks to its second regular season title in the last three seasons. The Hawks are currently on a 15 game unbeaten streak under the leadership of Coach McCourt.
The forwards making up the All-MAAC Second team forwards begin with Co-Rookie of the Year Cameron Harr of Marist, Fairfield’s Dominic Marshall and Siena’s Junior Rosero. The midfield is composed of Monmouth’s John Egan, Luke Fairlamb from Saint Peter’s, Oscar Gonzalez from Iona and Simon Lund Jorgensen of Marist.
The MAAC All-Rookie Team forwards include Canisius’ Melvin Blair, Co- Rookies of the Year Cameron Harr of Marist and Iona’s Daniel Huertas. The midfielders are Monmouth’s Anderson Asiedu, Diego Casielles of Fairfield and Simon Lund Jorgensen from Marist. The rookie backs are Quinnipiac’s Oscar Evans, Iona’s Humbert Ferrer, Zachary Pereira of Monmouth, Manhattan’s Dahrius Waldron and Siena goalkeeper Gianni Carillo.
