Manhattan and Siena to Meet in Women's Soccer Final

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – No. 2 Manhattan College will meet No. 6 Siena College in the 2015 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship final at Hesse Field on the campus of Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey on Sunday, November 8 at 3:00 p.m. The final will air live on ESPN3.
The second seeded Jaspers are making their programs first ever appearance in the MAAC final after defeating the defending champion, fourth seeded Rider, 3-1, in the semifinal round. Manhattan, which is coming off its best MAAC regular season finish in program history, is the top ranked defense in the conference. The Jaspers are also ranked sixth nationally in goals against average and ranks in the top ten nationally in shutouts and shutout percentage.
Sixth seeded Siena College is making its fourth appearance in the championship final and returns to the title match for the first time since 2010 when they won the crown by edging Canisius, 1-0, in overtime. The Saints are the first sixth seed to earn a spot in the championship final since Niagara University accomplished the feat during the 2009 championship at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida. Siena defeated the top overall seed Monmouth, 2-1, in the semifinal round.
The two teams met this season on September 26, with Manhattan earning a 1-0 shutout win. Jasper senior Sam Washuk scored off classmate Colleen Kavanagh's corner kick in the 66th minute. MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year Kristen Skonieczny recorded seven saves in the shutout win.
The winner of the 2015 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship will receive the leagues automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship. The NCAA Selection Show for DI Women’s Soccer will air on NCAA.com on Monday, November 9 at 4:30 p.m.
