Fairfield Takes On Quinnipiac in the 2015 Field Hockey Championship Game

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Fourth seeded Fairfield University faces off against second seeded and regular season co-champions Quinnipiac University in the 2015 MAAC Field Hockey Championship Game. The game takes place at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday November 8, at So Sweet a Cat Field on the campus of Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey and will be aired on MAAC.TV.
Number four seed Fairfield will be making an appearance in the championship game in its inaugural year in the MAAC. Fairfield comes off an upset win against number one seed Monmouth, the 2014 MAAC Champions, in the semifinal match up on November 6. Fairfield is one of the top offensive teams in the country. The team is ranked as one of the top 25 teams in the NCAA for goals per game (2.65), and scoring average (20).
Number two seed Quinnipiac comes off a win against Rider University in the semifinal match up on November 6 with a game winning goal from senior forward Savanna Reilly at the 70 minute mark. The Bobcats have won four field hockey championships and have made seven total championship game appearances since 1999. Quinnipiac is ranked number one in the country in defensives saves, with 23, making the Bobcats the number one defensive team in the NCAA.
The Bobcats and Stags met Sunday November 1 on the final day of regular season play. Quinnipiac fought back from a two goal deficit and was victorious over Fairfield in the 5-4 overtime match. Sunday’s championship match will be another good game with one of the top offensive teams taking on the top defensive team.
The winner of the 2015 MAAC Field Hockey Championship will receive an automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA Field Hockey Championship. The NCAA DI Field Hockey Selection Show will air on NCAA.com on Sunday November 8 at 10pm ET.
