Monmouth Men's Soccer Advances to Championship Game

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – The Monmouth University Hawks Men’s Soccer Team will compete in the 2015 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship Game against the winner of Siena College and Rider University after Monmouth defeated Iona College 2-1 in the first of two semifinals matches.
The first goal of the game was scored by Zachary Pererira on a header via a corner kick on the left side. The goal was assisted by Derek Luke. With this score, the Hawks now have 11 players with two or more goals in a season, which is the best in the NCAA.
The second goal of the game was score by Dan Pizzimenti of Monmouth. The goal came off a feed from 2015 MAAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Year, David Acuna Camacho at the 42:26 mark in the first half.
In the second half, Iona pulled with 2-1 of the Hawks when Jon-Luke Ferrandino scored on a penalty kick at the 53:11 mark. The Hawks turned up the defensive pressure following the Ferrandino goal as 2015 MAAC Men’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Year, Eric Klenofsky, recorded three saves in the second set of 45. Gaels goalie Julian Petrello also had a strong performance in the goal. He recorded five saves for Iona in the defeat. Luis Mendoza recorded three shots for Iona.
Monmouth University will play in the championship game tomorrow on Monday, November 9 at noon on ESPN3. They will look to win its second straight MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship and move onto the NCAA tournament.
