This Week in MAAC Sports; December 1

EDISON, NJ – Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) basketball heads into December with the first slate of conference match ups on deck. The non-conference games have seen MAAC schools pick up some big wins against ranked opponents.

The Fairfield University volleyball team – 2015 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Champions – will head to Austin, Texas to meet the host and third overall seed Texas Longhorns in the NCAA Championship First Round on Thursday, Dec. 3 at 8 p.m. ET. The Stags, who are currently 21-9 and riding a 12-match winning streak, are making their third trip to the NCAA postseason in the last four seasons.

In men's basketball news, the Monmouth Hawks received votes in the AP and coaches poll after a third place finish in the Advocare Invitational. Led by tournament MVP, Justin Robinson the Hawks garnered national attention with their play on the court as well as their animated bench. The Siena Saints are currently on a four game winning streak and are tied in the MAAC standings with the Hawks, both with a 4-2 record. Here are some notable conference and non-conference matchups this week in men's basketball:

·         Iona versus Fairfield on Tuesday, December 1 at 7:00 p.m.

·         Siena at Cornell on Tuesday, December 1 at 7:00 p.m.

·         Rider versus Saint Peter’s on Wednesday, December 2 at 7:00 p.m.

·         Siena versus Manhattan on Friday, December 4 at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN3

·         Canisius versus Monmouth on Friday, December 4 at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN3

·         Canisius versus Quinnipiac on Saturday, December 5 at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN3

·         Manhattan versus Marist on Sunday, December 6 at 2:00 p.m.

In women’s basketball news, Quinnipiac holds a 4-2 record with Fairfield and Canisius both with three wins on the season. At the Naismith Memorial Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame Challenge this past weekend, Iona College senior and 2015 MAAC Preseason Player of the Year, Joy Adams became the MAAC women’s basketball all-time career rebounder leader when she secured her 1,218 career board in the Gaels matchup with USC. Adams surpassed Manhattan’s Rosalee Mason, who played for the Jaspers from 2000-2004. Notable non-conference and MAAC contests for women’s basketball this week include:
