EDISON, NJ – Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) basketball heads into Christmas week with a full slate of games before the holidays begin.
In men’s basketball news, the Monmouth University Hawks defeated Rutgers University for the first time in program history, which marks the school’s first win over a Big Ten opponent. The Hawks received six votes in the AP poll. Marist knocked off Army, 89-83 behind MAAC
Men’s Basketball player of the week, Brian Parker, who recorded his first double-double to give the Knights its first loss at home this season. Antwon Portley of Saint Peter’s earned his third MAAC Rookie of the Week award. He has scored 20 or more points in four games this season for the Peacocks. The notable games this week include:
· Quinnipiac at Oregon State on Monday, December 21 at 9:00 p.m.
· Iona at UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday, December 22 at 3:00 p.m. in the South Point Holiday Classic
· Canisius at ULM on Tuesday, December 22 at 5:30 p.m. in the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic
· Siena at St. Bonaventure on Tuesday, December 22 at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN3
· Fairfield at Bucknell on Sunday, December 23 at 2:00 p.m.

In women’s basketball news, Iona defeated Saint Joseph’s 81-75 behind the performance of MAAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, Marina Lizarazu. The junior guard posted a career-high 25 points in the win. Rider defeated Lehigh in overtime 61-60 behind 24 points from Robin Perkins, who currently leads the conference with 15.9 points per game. Manhattan knocked off the defending Northeast Conference Champions, St. Francis Brooklyn, 61-53, behind Amani Tatum’s 15 point performance. Notable games this week include:
