RIVERDALE, N.Y. – With the 2015 NCAA Division I women’s volleyball season now complete, Manhattan College has officially been recognized as the national leaders in service aces.  The Jaspers served 242 aces this season, the most among the 329 Division I programs and 14 more than second-place New Orleans.  This is the first time that Manhattan has been the year-end leader in any NCAA statistical category.

Individually, three different Jaspers were among the top 12 nationally in service aces.  Second Team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) honoree Claire Van Dyk (New Richmond, Wis.) was ninth in the nation with 53 aces, and her 0.45 aces per set put her 15th among all Division I players.  Allie Yamashiro(Kapolei, Hawaii) placed 10th with 52 aces, while Alyssa Rehrer (Lorton, Va.) served 51 aces this season to rank 12th nationally.

“I’m very proud of this accomplishment,” Head Coach Mark Jones said.  “We’ve always taken great pride in our serving, and I think it was definitely one of the biggest keys to our success this season.”

As a team, Manhattan also finished among the top 10 in three other statistics.  The Jaspers’ 1.91 aces per set were second-most in the nation, trailing only Maryland Eastern Shore (1.98).  In addition, Manhattan ended up ninth nationally in digs (2186) and 10th in total attacks (4770).  Northern Iowa was the national leader in both categories.

The Jaspers posted a 20-14 record in 2015, their third consecutive 20-win season, and reached the semifinals of the MAAC Tournament for the third straight year.
