EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) indoor track and field season kicked off this weekend. Monmouth University was selected as the preseason favorite for indoor track and field on both the men’s and women’s side. The 2015 MAAC Volleyball Champions, Fairfield University competed in the NCAA Tournament against third ranked Texas.
The December portion of MAAC play in men’s and women’s basketball has concluded with Iona and Saint Peter’s 2-0 in conference play on the men’s side and Canisius, Iona, Manhattan, Marist and Siena in a five-way tie for first, all with 2-0 records in MAAC women’s basketball play.
In men’s basketball news, A.J. English tied a 30 year old MAAC record last Tuesday when he scored 46 points in a game against Fairfield, tying Jim McCaffrey’s record of 46 points in a game, which was set in 1985 when McCaffrey played for Holy Cross. English broke the MAAC record when he made 13 three-pointers in a game to lead his Gaels to victory, shattering the previous record of 10, held by former teammate Sean Armand in 2012. He was named MAAC Player of the Week. Conference play resumes in the new year, but there are many notable non-conference matchups this week, including:
· Iona at Tulsa on Tuesday, December 8 at 8:00 p.m. on ESPN3
· Niagara at St. John’s on Wednesday, December 9 at 5:00 p.m. on Fox Sports 1
· Siena versus Hofstra on Wednesday, December 9 at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN3
· Canisius versus Penn State on Thursday, December 10 in Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic
· Siena versus Albany on Saturday, December 12 at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN3/TWCSC
· Saint Peter’s versus Seton Hall on Sunday, December 13 at 2:30 p.m. on Fox Sports 1

In women’s basketball news, Tori Jarosz was named the MAAC Player of the Week after recording two double-doubles against defending champion Quinnipiac and preseason favorite Fairfield. She has five double-doubles in nine games for the Red Foxes. The action shifts back to non-conference play this week with these notable matchups:

· Northeastern at Quinnipiac on Wednesday, December 9 at 7:00 p.m.
