Molloy, Dodway, Powhida, and Beers Earn Weekly Honors

Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Zack Molloy, Rider
So., 6-0, Toms River, NJ/Toms River HS North
At the Big Al Open hosted by Princeton University, Molloy captured 1st place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:24.79. He went on to place 5th in the 200-yard freestyle (1:38.76) and 10th in the 1650-yard freestyle (15:45.98). Molloy also swam on three relays – the 4th place 800-yard freestyle relay (6:41.53) with Molloy swimming the third leg in 1:38.93, the 5th place 400-yard freestyle relay (3:02.76), which Molloy anchored in 45.33, and the 8th place 400-yard (3:21.91) medley he led off in 51.28. Overall, Molloy helped Rider to a 5th place team finish in a highly competitive field.
Men’s Diver of the Week
Josh Dodway, Marist
Sr., 5-8, Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna
Dodway placed first on the 1- and 3-M boards at the H2ounds Invitational from Dec. 4-5, as Marist defeated MAAC foes Iona, 249-108, and Saint Peter’s, 276-68. During the first session Friday night, he led a 1-2 finish for the Red Foxes at 3-M by racking up 313.80 points. On Saturday he won the 1-M event with a score of 296.33 points. Dodway has now earned MAAC Diver of the Week honors four times this season.
Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Bethany Powhida, Marist
Sr., 5-6, Delmar, NY/Bethlehem
Powhida won a pair of individual events at the H2ounds Invitational, as Marist defeated MAAC rivals Iona, 261-99, and Saint Peter’s, 309-22. She posted a career best time of 2:02.86 in the 200-yard backstroke and took the top spot in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:00.31. Powhida placed 2nd out of 21 competitors in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking in at 57.80 seconds. In relay action, she led off for the Red Foxes’ 1st place 400-yard medley and 800-yard freestyle squads. With the outcome against host Loyola on the line, she swam third on the 400-yard freestyle relay team that captured 1st place and led Marist to a 189-181 win over host Loyola and a sweep over the two-day meet.
Women’s Diver of the Week
Hailey Beers, Siena
Sr., Brockport N.Y./Brockport
Beers finished in 1st place on both the 1- and 3-M events to help Siena win the 2015 ECAC Winter Championship. She took top honors in the 1-M event, posting a six-round total of 227.25. A day later, she bested the field in the 3-M event with a six-round total of 242.95. Her two 1st place finishes helped her garner Diver of the Meet honors as the Saints captured the ECAC Championship for the first time after finishing third two of the last three years. The two 1st place finishes add to a season where she has posted seven 1st place, four 2nd place and one 3rd place finish to lead Siena. Beers performance also led her to receive ECAC Diver of the Week honors.
