The First Day of the 2015 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships Concludes

Buffalo, N.Y. – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference teams concluded the first day of the new four day format in the 2015 Men’s & Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center in Buffalo, New York. 

After the first day of competition, the Rider University men’s team finished in first place with a total of 80 points. Saint Peter’s University stands in second place with 66 points, while third place Marist College registered 62 points. Bryant University followed, totaling 60 points and Canisius College finished fifth with 60 points. Coming in sixth was Manhattan College with 50 points, seventh was Iona College with 48, eighth was Niagara University with 46 points and Fairfield finished ninth with 42 points. 

Canisius College and Saint Peter’s University tied for first place on the women’s side of competition with 72 points each. Coming in third place was Marist College with 68 points. There was a three way tie for fourth place between Rider University, Iona College and Siena College, each totaling 54 points through the first day. Following in seventh was Niagara University with 50 points, eighth was Fairfield University and coming in ninth with 40 points was Manhattan College. 

The Rider University Broncs had a successful day, winning both the men’s 200 yard medley relay and the 800 yard freestyle relay. The Broncs broke the MAAC record in the 800 free relay, with a time of 6:38.65, breaking the old record by 6.1 seconds. Zachary Molloy led Rider in the first leg, followed by Sam Cramer, Michael Regan and Zachary’s older brother William Molloy. Saint Peter’s men’s team also had a successful day, finishing second in the 200 yard medley relay and third in the 800 free relay. 

Saint Peter’s University took first place in the women’s 200 medley relay to start all competition for the 2015 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships. The winning Peacocks consisted of Matea Samardzic, Anastasiia Mushtei, Marie Feneron, and Rachel Wuko, who won in a time of 1:49.60.  Coming in second was Marist College with a time of 1:45.41 and following in third was Canisius College 1:46.67. In the women’s 800 yard free relay Canisius College took the top spot finishing in a time of 7:34.76. Marist followed in second place in a time of 7:39.11, while Saint Peter’s had a third place time of 7:40.98.
