Ostergaard & Smith Earn Women's Basketball ECAC Weekly Awards

EDISON, N.J. – Quinnipiac University senior forward Nikoline Ostergaard was named Division I Women’s Basketball New England “Co-Player of the Week” by the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC), while Fairfield University junior forward Casey Smith was named Division I Women’s Basketball New England “Rookie of the Week” by the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC).

Ostergaard reached double figures in all three games for the Bobcats to average 18.3 points per contest last week. The Denmark native shot 54.8 percent from the floor, 50 percent from beyond the arc and 73.1 percent at the free throw line. Ostergaard’s best performance of the week came in an 80-62 victory over Marist College, when she tallied 21 points, alongside eight rebounds and a pair of steals.

Smith averaged 12.0 points and 2.0 assists per game, while shooting 55 percent from the floor in Fairfield’s 2-0 week. Against Manhattan College, Smith led a second half surge by scoring the first 10 points for the Stags which would lead to a game-deciding 19-0 run. In a 61-58 win over Canisius College, Smith registered six of the first 10 points and had a crucial basket with 2:24 to go that put Fairfield University up by seven with just under three minutes remaining.

The 2014-15 season culminates with the MAAC Basketball Championships at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. March 5-9. Tickets can be purchased here.
