Schulte, Samardzic and Diotalevi earn ECAC Honors

EDISON, N.J. – Bryant University freshman Benjamin Schulte was named the ECAC Division I Men’s New England Swimmer of the Week. Matea Samardzic, a Saint Peter’s University sophomore, was awarded the ECAC Division I Metro/Upstate Women’s Swimmer of the Week. The ECAC Division I Metro/Upstate Women’s Diver of the Week is Renata Diotalevi from Marist College.

Schulte, the 2015 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men’s Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet, finished with top times in all three of his individual events at the MAAC Championship. The freshman ended the evening with a first place finish in the 200-backstroke with a time of 2:01.03.

Samardzic was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women’s Most Outstanding Swimmer at the MAAC Championships last week. The sophomore captured three individual titles in the 500 freestyle, 200 backstroke and 100 backstroke. She broke the MAAC record in both the 500 free and 100 back, finishing in times of 4:50.46 and 54.45 respectively.  

Diotalevi earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Most Outstanding Women’s Diver of the Meet after taking home the three-meter title with a top score of 263.80. The Madison, Conn. native earned a 247.80 score in the one-meter event to finish third.

The 2016 MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships will be held on February 10th to the 13th at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center at Erie Community College in Buffalo, N.Y.
