Damika Martinez Named to Nancy Lieberman Award Watch List

EDISON, N.J. - The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced the initial list of candidates for the 2015 Nancy Lieberman Award, the award recognizes the top point guard in women’s NCAA Division I college basketball. Iona College senior Damika Martinez has been named a candidate for the award for the second consecutive year. The 5’7 guard from Meriden, Connecticut currently ranks first in the MAAC in points per game, averaging 24.2 points per outing while she stands second in the nation in the category. The 2012 MAAC Rookie of the Year and two time reigning MAAC Player of the Year is aiming to become the MAAC women’s basketball all-time leading scorer this season. Martinez has led the MAAC in scoring the past three years and was named a pre-season All-American by Sporting News.
The 2014-15 season culminates with the MAAC Basketball Championships at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. March 5-9. Tickets can be purchased here.
