Monmouth Outdoor Track and Field Picked as Favorites in Both Polls

EDISON, N.J. – Defending league champions Monmouth University has been named the preseason favorite as the team to beat in Men's Outdoor Track and Field according to a vote of the league's 7 head coaches. Monmouth earned a total of 47 points.
Monmouth's men’s team, defending MAAC Outdoor Track and Field champions, recently captured the 2015 Indoor Track and Field trophy for the second consecutive year after strong performances both on the track and in the field events. The Hawks won the meet with a score of 220 points. Monmouth was led by Dylan Capwell who broke the MAAC record in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:46.82 and also was a vital part of the first place 4x400 meter relay team who had a time of 3:16.74.
Coming in second for the men’s teams is Manhattan College totaling 42 points. Rider University was picked to finish third with 36 points. Iona College was picked fourth with 28 points while Saint Peter's finished fifth in the poll with 22 points. Rounding out the poll was Canisius College finishing with 11 points, and right ahead of Marist College who finished seventh with 10 points.
2014 women’s conference champion Monmouth University has also been selected as the preseason favorite in 2015 MAAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field. Monmouth received a total of 80 points. Last month, the Hawks claimed their second MAAC Women's Indoor Track and Field championship, winning the meet with a score of 166.50 points.
Coming in second for the women’s teams is Rider University with 72 points. Quinnipiac University was picked to finish third with 60 points, narrowly edging fourth place Manhattan College with a total of 58 points. Iona College came in fifth with 45 points. Saint Peter’s College finished sixth with 35 points. Marist College was picked to finished seventh with 24 points. Rounding out the poll is Canisius College with 18 points and Niagara University finished ninth with 13 points.
