Quinnipiac to Face-Off with Oklahoma in First Round of NCAA Tournament

EDISON, N.J. – The 2015 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Champions, Quinnipiac University, will face Oklahoma University in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Division I Championship in Palo Alto, Calif. on Saturday, March 21 at 4:00p.m. EST.

Winning their first MAAC Championship title, Quinnipiac finished the season with a final record of 31-3. The Bobcats defeated nine time defending MAAC Champions Marist College 72-61 to earn the MAAC’s automatic qualifier, advancing them to NCAA Tournament for the first time since joining the MAAC last season. The selection marks the second NCAA appearance for the Bobcats.

Quinnipiac has won 21 straight games dating back to January 2. The Bobcats are 4-2 in neutral contest in the 2014-15 season.

Oklahoma, who fell in the Big 12 championship semifinal to Texas 59-46, enters the tournament with an overall record of 20-11. The Sooners hold a 2-3 record on neutral floors this season.  

Senior Jasmine Martin, who was named the 2015 MAAC Women’s Basketball Championships MVP leads Quinnipiac alongside All-MAAC First Team senior Samantha Guastella, All-MAAC Second Team graduate student Val Driscoll and All-MAAC Third Team seniors Gillian Abshire and Nikoline Ostergaard.

The winner will advance to the second round to take on the winner of No. 4 seed Stanford and No. 13 seed California State University Northridge on Monday, March 23, in Palo Alto, Calif.
