Player of the Week
Connor Panas, Canisius
Sr., 3B, 6-0, Toronto, Ontario/Etobicoke Collegiate
Canisius senior Connor Panas hit .385 in a four-game stretch this week as he helped the Griffs go 2-2 for the week, including a home-opening win over Buffalo (13-6) and a solid neutral site victory over Central Michigan on Saturday (7-4). Panas, who came into the weekend leading the team in homeruns and RBI continued that trend as he led way with one homerun and six RBI in four games. He started with a one hit effort against Buffalo where he pounded a 3 run homerun to help lift the Griffs over the Bulls. Against Central Michigan he recorded two hits and three RBI, which sparked the Griffs to 7-4, win. In the final game of the day, Panas went 2-of-3 with a walk in a losing effort. Panas finished the week with one homerun, two doubles and five walks. He also stole two bases in the week, on his way to a .385 batting average and a .556 on base percentage. The senior hitter also recorded a .769 slugging percentage.
Pitcher of the Week
T.J. Hunt, Monmouth
Sr., RHP, 6-4, Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo
Hunt tossed 6.2 scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and one walk while striking out four on Friday afternoon. He retired VCU in order in four separate innings, and earned the win in Monmouth’s first victory of the season.
Rookie of the Week
Joe Drpich, Siena
Fr., DH, 6-4, South Salem, N.Y./John Jay Cross River
Drpich had a monster weekend at 15-time MAC Champion Ohio, hitting .462 with two home runs, five RBI and a 1.000 slugging percentage. He was the difference in Siena’s 7-3 game two victory, finishing 3-for-5 with five RBI and two runs scored. He launched a grand slam in his first at bat in the first inning, and then homered again to lead off the third. Drpich hit safely in all three games against the Bobcats. He doubled and scored a run in Siena’s 7-4 rubber game victory on Sunday, helping seal an impressive series win.
