EDISON, N.J. – Monmouth University senior pitcher T.J. Hunt was named Division I Baseball Metro/Upstate “Player of the Week” by the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC), while Siena College freshman designated hitter Joe Drpich was named Metro/Upstate “Rookie of the Week”.
Hunt earned Monmouth their first victory of the season as he tossed 6.2 scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and one walk while striking out three last week versus VCU. He retired the Rams in order in four separate innings and recorded the win throwing 87 pitches and allowing just one extra base hit.
Drpich recorded a .462 batting average with two home runs, five RBI and a 1.000 slugging percentage during the week as the Saints took two wins over the weekend versus Ohio. Drpich’s biggest day came during the second game of the series as he launched back to back homeruns in consecutive plate appearances, including a first inning grand slam. Drpich hit safely in all three games against the Bobcats.
