MAAC Announces 2014-2015 Women's Basketball All-Rookie Team

EDISON, N.J. – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announces the 2014-2015 Women’s Basketball All-Rookie Team, selected by the MAAC's 11 head coaches.
The team is made up of Casey Smith of Fairfield University, Allie Clement of Marist College, Sajanna Bethea of Saint Peter’s University and Margot Hetzke and Kollyns Scarbrough of Siena College. One of these five players will be named the 2014-15 MAAC Rookie of the Year, also selected by the head coaches of the league. The winner will be announced on Friday, March 6 at 5:00 p.m. at the Postseason Awards Show located at the Swyer Theater at the Egg. The show will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
Smith, a 6-foot-2, redshirt sophomore guard from Danbury, Connecticut averaged 12.2 points per game, 4.7 rebounds per game, and added 27 blocks in her first season of collegiate competition while starting all 29 games for the Stags. She earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors six times this season.
Clement, a 5-foot-8, freshman guard from Falmouth, Maine averaged 5.8 points per game, 1.3 assists per game and 1.4 rebounds per game for the Red Foxes this season. She started 20 of a possible 29 games for Marist in 2015.
Bethea, a 5-foot-11, freshman forward from Levittown, Pa. was a unanimous selection to the 2015 All-MAAC Rookie Team. Bethea started 24 games for the Peacocks and led the team in scoring, averaging 9.9 points per game and 6.9 rebounds per game.
A unanimous selection to the 2015 All-MAAC Rookie Team, Siena freshman forward Hetzke led all first year players around the league in scoring averaging 13.8 points per game, good for fifth best in the league. The Penfield, N.Y. native pulled down 7.3 rebounds per game and shot 45.1 percent from the floor. Hetzke was named MAAC Rookie of the Week nine times this season.
Scarbrough, a 5-foot-10, freshman guard from Jamacia, N.Y. started all 29 games for the Saints as she averaged 7.2 points per game and grabbed 4.8 rebounds per game while dishing out 1.5 assists per outing. She also snatched 31 steals in 2015.
The 2014-15 season culminates with the MAAC Basketball Championships at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. March 5-9. Tickets can be purchased here.
