Alejandro Gomez Estrada & Sydney Young Earn Weekly Awards

EDISON, N.J. – Monmouth University freshman Alejandro Gomez Estrada is the MAAC Men’s Tennis Player of Week. The MAAC Women’s Player of the Week is Quinnipiac University’s Sydney Young.
Alejandro Gomez Estrada went 2-0 in Monmouth’s only match of the week, against the Siena Saints. At No. 1 doubles, the freshman teamed up with sophomore Ramy Bekhiet to earn an 8-3 victory. In singles play, Gomez Estrada won his first ever No. 2 singles match, by defeating Siena’s Diego Lebron 6-2, 6-3.
Sydney Young had two individual wins for the Bobcats as they took on Iowa State University and Manhattan College. In Quinnipiac’s match against Iowa State, Young picked up the lone victory at No. 5 singles in straight sets. Young added another singles win, when she won in straight sets against Manhattan’s Alyssa Rosello, 6-2, 6-2. Sydney Young has 17 wins this season, including 11 doubles victories.
The 2015 MAAC Tennis Championships will be held on April 25 and 26 at the Mercer County Park Tennis Center in West Windsor, NJ.
