EDISON, N.J. – No. 3 Siena College will complete their season and move on to face No. 2 Louisiana-Lafayette on Sunday at 5pm CT in the championship round the Women’s Basketball invitational (WBI) at Earl K. Long Gym in Lafayette, La.

The Saints will make league history on Sunday as the first MAAC women's basketball team to win three national postseason tournament games in one season and compete in a postseason championship. East region number three seed Siena (22-12) defeated fourth seeded Mercer 65-54 in the WBI Semifinals to cement their spot in the championship game, while also previously defeating Stony Brook and Xavier.

Siena can become just the second MAAC basketball team, men's or women's, in conference history to be crowned with a national postseason tournament championship. Last season the Siena men's basketball team won the College Basketball Invitational (CBI).

The 2007 Marist women’s team holds the current record for women’s wins in the NCAA tournament recording two before falling to number one seed Tennessee. Previously in the WBI the Manhattan women’s team has reached the semifinals twice in 2011 and 2012, while the Fairfield women’s team reached the semifinals last season but neither had reached the championship game.

The MAAC and Siena College are hosting the NCAA Women's Basketball Sweet Sixteen Albany Regional at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. March 28 & 30. Tickets can be purchased here.
