Player of the Week
Michael Furhman, Niagara
Jr., 1B, 5-10, Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra Area
Fuhrman started all five games last week for the Purple Eagles and finished the week with a .652 on base percentage. He led off with a 3-for-6 performance against Little Three rival St. Bonaventure where he added two RBIs, two runs scored, and stole his first base of the week. He went 1-for-2 with three walks, a RBI, four runs scored, and stole a base as NU took its first MAAC game of the season 11-2 over Saint Peter’s. He again went 1-for-2, this time with two RBIs and another two walks in the 3-0 win in the rubber match against the Peacocks. On the whole, Fuhrman went 6-for-14 at the plate with eight walks, two extra-base hits, six RBIs, six runs scored, and went a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts.
Pitcher of the Week
Mariano Rivera, Iona
Jr., RHP, 5-11, Harrison, N.Y./Iona Prep
Junior RHP Mariano Rivera pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout to help the Gaels to a 2-0 win over Marist at Bard College's Honey Filed. Rivera threw 60 strikes in 92 pitches, recording 11 strikeouts, his second double-digit effort of the season and two shy of his career-high set earlier in the year. He allowed only one baserunner the entire game, retiring the side in order in six of his seven innings, allowing a base hit up the middle to lead off the fifth.
Rookie of the Week
Tom Cosgrove, Manhattan
Fr., LHP, 6-2, Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell
Cosgrove struck out a career-high six while allowing just one hit and one unearned run over 6.0 dominating innings in a no-decision at Hofstra (3/24) … Notched five 1-2-3 innings and needed 79 pitches in facing just two over the minimum in his best start to date … Has struck out 14 over 17.2 innings of work.
