The First Round of the 2015 MAAC Women's Basketball Championship Start Thursday, March 5

ALBANY, N.Y. – The 2015 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Championship starts on Thursday, March 5 with three first round contests at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York.
No. 8 Canisius College (10-19, 8-12) and No. 9 Monmouth University (12-17, 8-12) will open up the 2015 championship at 9:30 a.m. The Golden Griffins swept the Hawks in both of the meetings this season. Canisius won the first contest on Jan. 30, 75-58, and the second meeting on Feb. 22, 62-49. The winner of this game will take on No. 1 Quinnipiac University on Friday at 12:00 p.m.
At 11:30 a.m., hOURglass rivals, No. 7 Rider University (11-19, 8-12) and No. 10 Saint Peter’s University (4-25, 4-16) meet. The teams split their two regular season match ups. The Peacocks won the first contest, 50-49, on Jan. 02. The Broncs took game number two, 54-49, on Feb. 10. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals and take on No. 2 Marist College at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night.
The final game of the first round features a match up between No. 6 Niagara University (13-16, 9-11) and No. 11 Manhattan College (3-26, 2-18) at 1:30 p.m. Niagara took both regular season games against Manhattan. The Purple Eagles won, 64-38, on Dec. 07, and 53-46, on Jan. 31. The winner of this match up will face No. 3 Fairfield University in the final game of the quarterfinals on Friday night at 9:30 p.m.
