PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC- Iona College women's track junior Kate Avery and graduate student Rosie Clarke compete for Great Britain in this weekend's European Indoor Track & Field Championships in Prague, Czech Republic. Avery will race in the 3,000-meter event, looking to improve on her personal best and school record 3k time of 8:53.12. Clarke is representing her country in the 1500-meter event. She is the current school record holder in the mile, which is 109 meters longer than the 1500m race she is racing this weekend.
Avery is set to run first, this Friday (Mar. 6) when she races in the 3k qualifying heat. The event is scheduled to begin at 7:25 pm ET (1:25 pm locally). The final round is slated for Saturday (Mar. 7) at 6:50 pm local time (12:50 am, Sunday in New York). Avery competes in her second senior European Championship event with Great Britain. This past December, she was second in the Euro Cross Country event, finishing the 7.782 km race with a time of 28:27, milliseconds behind her GBR teammate Gemma Steel.
Clarke runs the 1500-meter qualifying race Saturday (Mar. 7) at 5:30 pm Eastern Time (11:30 am local). The final round is Sunday (Mar. 8 at 4:10 pm in Prague (10:10 pm ET). Clarke is Iona's lone competitor at next weekend's NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships (Mar. 13-14) hosted by the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
