EDISON, N.J. – Paige Fujihara of the University at Albany was named the MAAC Golfer of the Month on the women’s side, while Brian Grubbs of Saint Peter’s earned MAAC Men’s Golfer of the Month honors for the month of March, the league announced today. For Fujihara, it is her second honor of the 2014-15 campaign, as the sophomore also won the award for the month of September.

Fujihara led UAlbany to a 3rd-place finish out of 14 teams at the Lonnie Barton Invitational (March 9-10) to open the 2015 spring season. Individually, she placed 3rd overall in the field of 84, shooting 76-77 (154). At the Hoya Invitational (March 30-31), blustery winds and cold conditions wreaked havoc on the entire field. Fujihara tied for 41st overall in a competitive field of 75, shooting 90-81-83 (254) in the two-day tournament. The Great Danes placed 7th amidst 13 squads there.

Grubbs finished sixth against a highly competitive field at the Whiting-Turner Towson Invitational over the weekend. After shooting a 77 in the first round, the senior posted a one-over par round of 72 in the final round to finish tied for sixth with a two-day score of 149, six strokes behind the medalist. Grubbs was the top MAAC finisher of the competition that included preseason favorite Fairfield and Siena. The field was also highlighted by nationally-ranked Arkansas, who had two players finish ahead of Grubbs. The Peacocks opened the month with a dual match against Eastern Florida State and Grubbs posted a round of 77 in that competition.

The 2015 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships will be held April 24-26 at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
