Fairfield and Marist Earn Women's Rowing Weekly Awards

EDISON, N.J. – The Women’s Varsity 8 from Fairfield University earn the Varsity 8 weekly award. The 2nd Varsity 8 and the Varsity 4 from Marist College claim the other two rowing weekly awards.
The Women’s Varsity 8 from Fairfield University takes home this week’s award in the Varsity 8. The Stags Varsity 8 won in two different events on the day. Starting off in the first race, Fairfield posted a time of 6:55.7, nearly seven seconds ahead of second place Marist. In the second race of the day, the Stags defeated the Red Foxes again with a time of 6:59.51. Led by Coxswain Nicole Karwashan and rowers Jaclyn Ozyjowski, Sarah Bucklen, Gabby Piatek, Liz Franger, Carmen Fox, Maria Levano, Casey Bowler, and Katherine Pitz, the Stags Varsity 8 are off to a solid start.
The Women’s 2nd Varsity 8 from Marist College takes home the weekly award. The 2nd Varsity 8 took home first place with a time of 7:26.8, besting Fairfield, Robert Morris, and Iona in the process. In the second Varsity 8 race of the day, Marist once again finished first with a time of 7:58.3, topping Robert Morris, Fairfield, and Iona in the process.
The Women’s Varsity 4 from Marist College takes home the Varsity 4 weekly award. To a tune of 7:49.1, the Varsity 4 took down Fairfield’s A boat, Robert Morris, and Fairfield’s B Boat.
The 2015 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Rowing Championships will be held on Sunday, May 17 at Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J.
