Capwell, Clarke, Litzell and Johnson Earns Outdoor Track and Field Honors

EDISON, N.J.- Rosie Clarke of Iona College, Love Litzell of Manhattan College, Dylan Capwell and Taylor Johnson of Monmouth University are this week's Outdoor Track and Field award winners.

Capwell won the 800 by nearly a half-second at the Virginia Challenge at the University of Virginia on Friday of last week, running a time of 1:48.70 to win over 50 others in the field.

Graduate student Rosie Clarke shattered a school record and led Iona at the 2015 Virginia Challenge hosted by the University of Virginia. Clarke was the top collegiate finisher in the 1,500-meter run. Clarke's time of 4:12.10 was good for third overall behind two professional runners. She topped North Carolina's Lianne Farber by more than a second. The time is the third fastest time in the NCAA this season. The 2015 NCAA Indoor All-American and Iona indoor mile record holder lowered the Gaels' outdoor 1,500-meter record by more than seven seconds. Former Gael standout and reigning Australian 1,500-meter national champion Heidi Gregson set the school record with a 4:19.14 at the 2010 NCAA Championship in Greensboro, NC.

Litzell continued his strong season at the Larry Ellis Invitational from Princeton University.  Competing in the invitational section of the hammer throw on Friday afternoon, he set another personal-best, getting out to 68.01 meters (223 feet, 1 inch).  He was the top collegiate finisher in the event and finished second overall behind Costa Rica’s Roberto Sawyers.  Litzell is currently 10th in the NCAA and seventh in the East Region in the hammer throw.

Johnson claimed third in the shot put with a shot of 43’5”, while also winning the discus with a mark of 163’3”. Johnson also won the hammer throw, marking in at 168’8” to capture two events overall at the Moravian Greyhound Invitational this weekend.

The 2015 MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held May 2-3 at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, N.J.
