Ryan Bailey, Monmouth
So., C, 6-1, Mt. Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane
Bailey hit .700 this weekend at Niagara, sparking the Monmouth offense to 25 runs in three days. The sophomore went 7-for-10 with two home runs, a double, three runs, three RBI’s and a walk. His on base percentage was a whopping .727, and he slugged at a 1.400 clip.
Pitcher of the Week
Eddie Macaluso, Iona
Gr., LHP, 5-11, Islip, N.Y./Islip
Iona graduate LHP Eddie Macaluso was sensational in a nine-inning complete game shutout effort vs. Saint Peter's Sunday. Macaluso scattered five singles and allowed just one runner past first base on the afternoon. He struck out eight batters and walked just one in the 108-pitch effort. With his first out in the eighth inning Macaluso became the first pitcher in Iona history to log 300 innings pitched after setting the school record earlier this season. It was Macaluso's fifth career complete game and first career shutout.
Rookie of the Week
Tanner Kirwer, Niagara
Fr., 3B, 6-0, Sherwood Park, Alberta/Archbishop Jordan Catholic
Tanner Kirwer hit .667/.750/.643 and went a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts in three games against Monmouth. He went 2-for-4 with a RBI, a run scored, a walk and a stolen base in game one. He hit a sac-fly to right that cut the lead to 10-8 and set up Rodrigues’ three-run homerun. He got NU on the board in the game-two win with a RBI single in the fifth. He went 3-for-4 with two runs, a RBI, and another stolen base. He wrapped up the weekend with another 3-for-4 outing with a run scored and a stolen base.
