Pugliese and Raynor Earn MAAC Tennis Weekly Awards

EDISON, N.J.- Victor Pugliese from Monmouth University is the MAAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week. The MAAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week is Quinnipiac University senior Jacqueline Raynor.
Victor Pugliese posted a perfect combined record of 7-0 to help lead Monmouth to its first tennis league championship in 20 years. The Frenchman remained unbeaten in his career in MAAC play, running his winning-streak to 10 matches with a trio of wins in singles play. The senior downed his No. 1 counterpart from Marist 6-1, 6-1 before edging Kei Ezaka from Quinnipiac 6-4, 7-5. Pugliese capped off his singles action with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Brad Orban of Fairfield, leading the Blue and White to an unblemished league record. In doubles play, Pugliese along with Vidit Vaghela, earned wins over Marist, Quinnipiac, Saint Peter’s and Fairfield, all at No. 1.
Raynor became the winningest Quinnipiac women’s tennis player in program history as she won the 166th match of her career against the Monmouth Hawks on Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale. Raynor tied and broke the record with a pair of victories, as well as tying and breaking the program record for wins in a single-season with her 44th and 45th victories of the season. Raynor has won 21 consecutive individual matches, and has not lost an individual match since March 17 against Iowa State. She was a perfect 7-0 this week, including 6-0 in conference matches. Raynor had one match unfinished against Stony Brook, but was up 6-3 with Michelle Dassa.
The 2015 MAAC Tennis Championships will be held on April 25 and 26 at the Mercer County Park Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J.
