Iona and Robert Morris Earn Men's and Women's Rowing Weekly Awards

EDISON, N.J. – The Women’s Varsity 8 and 2nd Varsity 8 from Robert Morris University sweep the weekly awards on the women’s side this week, while the Men’s Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 from Iona College claim the two awards on the men’s side.
The Robert Morris University Women’s Varsity 8 takes home this week’s award. At the 2015 Spring Metropolitan Championships, the women’s program took home first place out of nine schools. The Colonials defeated the nine-team field with a time of 7:30.6, more than 13 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. The Colonials Varsity 8 lineup included coxswain Laura Mooradian and rowers Kristin Fay, Heather Hodges, Rebekah Noorlag, Brianna Hellier, Kelsey Porter, Julie Miller, Emily Engle-Young, and Tina Sahr.
The Women’s 2nd Varsity 8 from Robert Morris University takes home the weekly award. The Colonials took home gold with a time of 7:45.5. The lineup included coxswain Victoria Lomax and rowers Katelyn Goodman, Taylor Childers, Rebecca Fiscus, Taylor Andree, Kaitlyn Brown, Lindsey Lose, Paige Oster, and Cassandra Grafton.
On the men’s side, Iona College Varsity 8 took home the weekly award. The Gaels won the men’s side of the Metropolitan Championships and the overall men’s and women’s combined championship. They defeated Rensselaer and Geneseo to win the open water event—their ninth Varsity 8 championship in regatta history. The lineup included coxswain Bianca Mesqueue and rowers Ryan Harding, Thomas Baik, Ryan Dronzek, Brian Fairfield, Brandon O’Sullivan, Troy Madden, Vito Roca, and Abraham Bluestone.
The Men’s Varsity 4 from Iona College took this week’s award. The Gaels conquered the competition by besting Geneseo, Rensselaer, and two crews from Stony Brook. The lineup included Coxswain Bianca Mesqueue and rowers Ryan Dronzek, Brian Fairfield, Tom Baik, and Brandon O’Sullivan.
The 2015 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Rowing Championships will be held on Sunday, May 17 at Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J.
