Wagner and Marist Set to Meet in Water Polo Championship Title

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.- Top-seed Marist College and second-seed Wagner College will meet in the title game of the 2015 MAAC Water Polo Championship after winning their semifinal matches on Saturday.

The second-seeded Seahawks advanced to its fifth straight semifinal after defeating the third-seeded Gaels, 18–12. Junior Meghan Rodriguez had a game-high five goals for the Seahawks, while Elise Begg, Lily Doerfler, Jess Lundgren, and Kimberly Watson all chipped in with three goals apiece and one score from Jessica Burdge.

Top-seeded Marist College defeated fourth-seed Villanova University, 15-9, in the second semifinal to advance to its second straight title game. Marist’s Amanda Amorosa scored a game best four goals and Jessica Hamby pitched in with three. Brooke Else, Allison Hamby, Ann-Lena Hathway, and Nastassia McGlothlin all registered two goals in the game.

Wagner and Marist split their regular season series. Wagner won the first matchup, 15-9, on March 28 in Lexington, Virginia. In their next matchup, Marist came out victorious, 11-9, on April 11 in New Rochelle, New York. 

This will be the second consecutive season that Marist and Wagner meet in the championship game. In the 2014 title contest, top-seed Wagner defeated second-seed Marist, 9-7.

The championship match will begin at approximately 2 p.m. tomorrow. Tickets for the 2015 MAAC Water Polo Championship are available through Marist College
