Quinnipiac Set To Play #2 North Carolina In NCAA Tournament

EDISON, N.J. – The 2015 MAAC Women’s Tennis Champion, Quinnipiac University, will face off against the No. 5 overall seed North Carolina (27-1) and will travel to Chapel Hill for their first round matchup on Saturday, May 9 at 12 P.M. at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
The Bobcats are coming off of their eighth Division I Conference Championship after sweeping Niagara 4-0 on Sunday, April 26. Quinnipiac captured the MAAC's automatic bid and will make its second consecutive NCAA Tournament Appearance. Quinnipiac will travel to its sixth different NCAA tournament destination with the draw of the North Carolina Tar Heels. The Bobcats have traveled to Stanford three times, most recently in 2014 as well as UCLA (2011), the University of Georgia (2005), UCLA (2007) and Miami (Fla.) (2008) in its other NCAA tournament bids.
At the 2015 MAAC Women’s Tennis Championship, Quinnipiac earned the doubles point with victories in the third and first positions. Sophia Dzulynsky and Sitilia Rencheli earned an 8-1 victory over Iva Celan and Ashley Ta in No. 3 doubles to give the Bobcats the lead. Jacqueline Raynor and Michelle Dassa followed up with an 8-5 victory defeating Maria Ortiz and Paulina Velasquez in No. 1 doubles to give the Bobcats momentum into the singles matches.
The winner of the Quinnipiac-North Carolina match will advance to the Second Round to play the winner Dartmouth and William & Mary.
Tickets for the NCAA First and Second Rounds are $5 for adults and $3 for students and seniors. Children aged six and under are free. Gates for each day will open one hour prior to the beginning of competition. On Saturday the gates will open at 8 A.M. and 12 P.M. on Sunday.
