Fairfield, Drake, and Marist Earn Men's and Women's Rowing Weekly Awards

EDISON, N.J. – On the women’s side, Fairfield University takes home this week’s Varsity 8 week award, while Drake University takes home this week’s 2nd Varsity 8 weekly award. On the men’s side, Fairfield University claims the Varsity 8 and 2nd Varsity 8 awards, while Marist College takes home the Varsity 4 award.

The Fairfield University Women’s Varsity 8 takes home this week’s award. At the Sacred Heart Invitational, the Stags captured first place with a time of 8:57.30, seven seconds ahead of the second place finisher. The Stags Varsity 8 lineup included coxswain Nicole Karwashan and rowers Jaclyn Ozyjowski, Sarah Bucklen, Gabby Piatek, Maria Levano, Jacquie Moser, Carmen Fox, Liz Franger, and Casey Bowler.

The Women’s 2nd Varsity 8 from Drake University takes home the weekly award. The Bulldogs took home gold in the MACRA Championship with a time of 8:07, defeating Miami (Ohio), St. Thomas, and Wheaton College and Eastern Michigan in the process. The 2nd Varsity 8 lineup included coxswain Miranda Peterson and rowers Elaine Fickau, Shelley Hunter, Sadie Robb, Lauren Bascio, Kerstin Donat, Bri Varela, Julie Shipley, and Jessica Rebischke.

On the men’s side, the Fairfield Varsity 8 took home the weekly award. The Stags won the race with a time of 7:37.1. They defeated the Fairfield B team by just 3 seconds. The Varsity 8 lineup included coxswain Olivia Vita and rowers Travis Day, George Bellos, Alex Nowicki, Jack Santoro, Will Quentin, Jack Carty, Luke Auger, and Cameron Bowen.

The Men’s 2nd Varsity 8 from Fairfield took home the award. The Stags placed 2nd with a time of 7:40.4 just behind their Varsity 8 counterpart. The 2nd Varsity 8 lineup included coxswain Connor Kim and rowers Tom Siddall, Bobby Lawler, Sam Sullivan, Herbie Marache, Cameron Shalkowski, James Laviolette, John O’Neill, and Mike Giuliana.

The Men’s Varsity 4 from Marist College took this week’s award. The Red Foxes conquered host school Ithaca with a time of 8:10.7. The Varsity 4 lineup included coxswain Cole Federiconi and rowers Jack Brown, Joseph Kohn, Marten Martensson, and Brendan McLaughlin  

The 2015 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Rowing Championships will be held on Sunday, May 17 at Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J.
