EDISON, N.J. – Iona College junior outfielder Travis Mistretta, Monmouth University senior pitcher T.J. Hunt and Rider University freshman pitcher Nick Margevicius were named Division I Baseball Metro/Upstate “Players of the Week” by the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC).
Mistretta, the “ECAC Metro/Upstate Player of the Week”, led the Gaels to a 3-1 week with a .538 batting average and seven hits in 13 at bats. He reached base in 62.5% of his plate appearances and slugged .692 with two doubles on the week. Mistretta scored five times and drove in four others. He walked twice, stole a base and was hit by a pitch.
The Hawks T.J. Hunt was named the “ECAC Metro/Upstate Pitcher of the Week”. Hunt tossed the first no-hitter for Monmouth baseball since 2007. He allowed only one runner to reach second base, and recorded four 1-2-3 innings while striking out five. In the final inning, he got a ground out to short and a strike out before getting Zach Rawson to ground out to complete the no-hitter. Hunt has now thrown five complete games this season, and has completed every single start he has made at home this year. Earlier this week, Hunt was also named the Louisville Slugger National Pitcher of the Week.
Margevicius, the “ECAC Metro/Upstate Rookie of the Week”, pitched seven shutout innings for Rider this weekend against one of the top offensive clubs in the MAAC, Quinnipiac, allowing just four singles and two walks while striking out seven, improving to 4-1 against MAAC teams. The freshman has allowed just three earned runs in his last 29 innings.
