JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's men's golf team has been placed in the New Haven Regional for the NCAA Men's Golf Championships Regionals set to run from May 14-16, announced on Monday during the Morning Drive television show on the Golf Channel.
The three-day event will take place at The Course at Yale in New Haven, Conn. The golf course layout is rated as the top collegiate golf course in the country. It is also recognized as one of the finest examples of early American golf course design and voted 45th of Top-100 Classical Golf Courses. In 1988, Golf Magazine ranked the course as 71st among the most 100 difficult courses in the word. The Top-5 teams from each regional and six individuals will move onto the NCAA Men's Golf Championship at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida on May 29-June 3.
The Peacocks are the 14th seed in the regional that will also feature Vanderbilt, LSU, South Florida, Oklahoma State, Arkansas San Diego State, Iowa, North Carolina State, Ohio State, Troy, North Texas, College of Charleston and Robert Morris. In addition to the 14 teams, five individuals will also compete in this regional for a total of 65 players.
Saint Peter's will be paired with Robert Morris and the five individuals for the first round. The threesomes will tee off from the first tee at 9:50 a.m., 10:01 a.m., 10:12 a.m., 10:23 a.m. and 10:34 a.m.
Seniors Eric Edmunds (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) and Brian Grubbs (Cortez, Colo./Montezuma Cortez) both played on The Course at Yale as freshman. Grubbs finished the two-day event with a score of 158 while Edmunds finished one stroke behind Grubbs with a 159 to lead the Peacocks to an eighth-place standing at the Yale Opener on Apr. 7, 2012.
The Peacocks won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men's Golf Championships by nine strokes over Iona on Apr. 26. Saint Peter's went wire-to-wire to win its second-straight MAAC Championship in the three-day event. Junior Nicholas Dilio (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) finished tied for the best score at the tournament while Grubbs finished third and Edmunds placed seventh to earn All-MAAC recognition. Head coach Pete Falloon was named the MAAC Coach of the Year.
Last season, Saint Peter's competed in its first NCAA Men's Golf Regional in Sugar Grove, Ill., on May 15-17, 2014. Edmunds paced the Peacocks with a 59th-place finish while Dilio (67th place), sophomore Dominic Diaz (72nd place), Grubbs (74th place) and Brandon Molson (75th place) also participated for the Jersey City team. Saint Peter's finished 14th in the regional.
