EDISON, NJ - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has named Dedra Palmer, as its Director of Championships, announced by MAAC Commissioner, Richard J. Ensor.
“The MAAC is fortunate to secure the services of a young and upcoming athletic administrator like Dedra Palmer as its Director of Championships,” notes Ensor. “Dedra joins the MAAC staff after a year at Duke University where she hosted ACC and NCAA championships. That experience, plus Dedra’s past volunteer efforts on behalf of the MAAC at the 2014 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament in Buffalo, where she completed her Master’s degree in Sport Management at Canisius College, were all major factors in her choice for this position.”
In her role, Palmer will develop league schedules for assigned sports and plan and conduct sports, championships, and special events. She will assist in the development of in-season and championship policies, conduct coaches meeting for assigned sports, and assist with the public relations program for conference championships. Additionally, Palmer will serve as the primary liaison for the MAAC Online Store with Lids Team Sports and assist with the MAAC community relations program including the “MAAC Gives Back” outreach.
Palmer joins the MAAC staff after serving as the Athletic Facilities, Game Operations and Championships Assistant at Duke University the past year. While at Duke, she served as the primary game day operations manager for women’s volleyball, swimming & diving, and both men’s and women’s tennis, while also serving as the secondary operations manager for football and men’s and women’s basketball. Palmer served as the tournament director for the 2015 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Tennis First and Second Regional Rounds, and assisted with the NCAA Fencing Regionals, and NCAA Women’s Basketball First and Second Rounds. She also volunteered for the 2014 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Second and Third Rounds which was hosted by the MAAC in Buffalo, New York.
Prior to Duke, Palmer worked at The College at Brockport as the Event Management and Facility Operations Assistant from January to June of 2014. Before her stint at the College at Brockport, she was an assistant women’s soccer coach at Herkimer County Community College in Herkimer, New York, and a volunteer assistant coach for the State University of New York at Potsdam in Potsdam, New York.
