Cliff LaRose Named MAAC Softball Umpires Assignor

EDISON, NJ – Cliff LaRose has been named the softball umpires assignor for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), announced by the league today.
LaRose currently serves as the conference coordinator for the Northeast 10 Conference, the America East, and is the Regional Assignor for the Atlantic 10 Conference. He has been the Commissioner of the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) Junior Olympics since 1996 and serves as the Deputy Umpire-in-Chief for the ASA Connecticut.
“Cliff LaRose brings well over two decades of umpire experience to the MAAC and his qualifications both as an umpire and an assignor, made him the right choice for the league,” said Dan Petrino, MAAC Assistant Commissioner of Championships. “Cliff’s credential’s as an instructor and staff member at Three-Umpire improvement camps in which officials are developed and educated for collegiate softball, will benefit the conference’s coaches and student-athletes greatly in the recruitment and evaluation of umpires.”
LaRose’s term as assignor will begin immediately. His duties will include assignment of umpires for all MAAC softball contests and all home contests of MAAC institutions, as well as all post-season MAAC Softball Championship contests. LaRose will also coordinate recruitment and evaluation of conference softball umpires.
“I am pleased that Cliff LaRose will serve as assignor for MAAC softball. His experience and knowledge of the game will be beneficial to MAAC softball,” noted Alison Sexton, Softball Committee Chair. “He has umpired in the conference for many years so his familiarity with the MAAC will enhance the relationship between officials, coaches and student-athletes.”
In addition to his administrative experience, LaRose has been a collegiate umpire since 1988. He has served as a softball umpire for leagues including, the MAAC, American East, A10, Big East, CAA, and ECAC. LaRose has also officiated a total of 28 post-season conference tournaments across all three NCAA divisions.
“I am very pleased and honored to be appointed as the Softball Coordinator for the MAAC,” said LaRose. “For me, it is the next step in my service to the conference that spans over 13 years, which has involved working with some of the best officials in the NCAA. I look forward to working with the MAAC administrators and coaches so we can continue to ensure high quality and professional officiating.”
LaRose has been a member of the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) since 1988. He was inducted into the Connecticut ASA Hall of Fame in 2010 and the Connecticut Scholastic and Collegiate Hall of Fame in 2014.
