MAAC Women's Soccer Set to Begin on Friday

EDISON, NJ –The first weekend of women’s college soccer begins on Friday, August 21, with a full schedule of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) teams in action. Opening weekend will have a total of 14 contests with nine of the leagues eleven teams opening up the season on Friday.

Marist will kick off the non-conference slate at 1:00 p.m. at Providence. At 3:00 p.m., Niagara will host Big 10’s Michigan State and Saint Peter’s welcomes in-state rival NJIT. Iona will host fellow New York City school, LIU and Siena travels to Holy Cross at 4:00 p.m. At 5:00 p.m., Canisius opens its season at Hampton. The nightcap includes Manhattan hosting Vermont, preseason favorite Monmouth hosting Marshall, and Fairfield taking on Maine in the Maine Black Bear Tournament all set for 7:00 p.m.

On Sunday August 23, Fairfield will close out the Maine Black Bear Tournament against Wagner at 11:00 a.m. At 12:00 p.m. Canisius will be at Old Dominion. Defending MAAC champion, Rider begins its championship title defense at Mount St. Mary’s, while Iona host Vermont at 1:00 p.m.  Closing out opening weekend is Siena at Hartford set for 2:00 p.m.

The lone MAAC team that will not be in action opening weekend, Quinnipiac, begins its season on Monday, August 24 hosting Holy Cross at 3:00 p.m.

The 2015 women’s soccer first installment of weekly awards will be announced on Monday, August 24. The league will select an offensive player, defensive player, and rookie of the week each week until the MAAC Championship.

The season will culminate with the 2015 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship. The championship will begin with the first round opening up on Saturday, October 31 with the No. 3 seed hosting the No. 6 seed and the No. 4 seed hosting the No. 5 seed. The following week, the No. 1 seed will host the semifinals and finals on November 6 and 8.
