EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) will have an action packed slate of games for the week of August 31. Men’s and women’s soccer, field hockey and volleyball will continue its non-conference schedule with many interesting opponents on deck. The men’s and women’s cross country season also kicks off on Saturday, September 5.

The first men’s soccer game of the week will see Saint Peter’s men’s soccer open up their 2015 campaign when they host Massachusetts on August 31 at 3:00 p.m. in Jersey City. Rider will also kick off its men’s soccer season when they welcome Saint Joseph’s University to Lawrenceville, New Jersey at 3:00 p.m. In-state rivals Quinnipiac and UConn square off on August 31 at 7:00 p.m. Canisius and Buffalo take the field for a cross-town rivalry game at 7:00 p.m. on September 1. Other notable games include:

  • Niagara at Michigan State on Friday, September 4 at 5:00 p.m.
  • Iona at Duke on Saturday, September 5 at 7:00 p.m.
  • Fairfield at Florida Atlantic on Sunday, September 6 at 2:00 p.m.
  • Niagara at Michigan on Sunday, September 6 at 4:00 p.m.

In women’s soccer action, Rider will head to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to take on Temple on September 1 at 4:00 p.m. The undefeated Monmouth Hawks will host Fairleigh Dickinson on ESPN 3 at 7:00 p.m. as they look to improve to 4-0 on the young campaign. Other notable games include:

  • Quinnipiac in the TD Bank Classic at Burlington, Vermont facing New Hampshire on September 4 at 1:30 p.m. and host Vermont on Sunday, September 6 at 1:30 p.m.
  • Iona versus Hartford on Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 p.m.

Week Two of MAAC field hockey starts with associate MAAC member, Bryant, taking on UC Davis in California on August 31 at 3:00 p.m. Siena will head to Easton, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, September 1 at 7:00 p.m. Monmouth will host Lehigh on Friday, September 4 at 3:00 p.m. Quinnipiac heads to Storrs, Connecticut to take on UConn in an in-state rivalry game on Friday, September 4 at 6:00 p.m. Other notable field hockey matchups include:

  • Rider at Columbia on Friday, September 4 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Sacred Heart at Yale on Saturday, September 5 at noon.
  • Fairfield versus Michigan at noon on Saturday, September 5

In volleyball news, the week begins with Siena going to Hofstra on Tuesday, September 1 at 1:00 p.m. Manhattan will host Stony Brook on the same day at 7:00 p.m. Iona heads St. John’s University on Tuesday, September 1 at 7:30 p.m. for a battle with the Red Storm. There are a few notable tournaments this weekend, including:

  • The Fairfield Invitational: Fairfield versus Holy Cross on Friday, September 4 at 11:00 a.m., Fairfield versus Boston College at 6:30 p.m.
  • Fairfield versus New Hampshire on Sunday, September 6 at 8:00 p.m.
  • The Crosstown Tournament: Marist versus Lafayette on Saturday, September 5 at 1:00 p.m.
  • Saint Peter’s versus Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday, September 5 at 1:00 p.m.
  •  St. Francis Brooklyn Terrier Invitational: Rider at St. Francis Brooklyn on Friday, September 4 at noon and then take on Valparasio at 3:00 p.m.
