Player of the Week

Claire Archibald – Iona

Fr., OH, 5-10, Coto De Caza, CA/Santa Margarita Catholic

Freshman outside hitter Claire Archibald led the Gaels with 39 kills in 12 sets in their 2-1 showing at the Bryant Hampton Invitational in Smithfield, Rhode Island.  Archibald recorded double-digit kills in all three matches including a season-high 16 in her debut in a five-set win over Holy Cross.  She recorded 26 digs over the weekend and her 12-kill, 10-dig performance versus Bryant Saturday was the Gaels’ first double-double of the season.  She recorded nine digs vs. Holy Cross in her first collegiate game, nearly missing another double-double.

Libero of the Week

Allie Yamashiro – Manhattan

Jr., LIB, 5-4, Kapolei, Hawaii/Kamehameha

Yamashiro averaged 4.07 digs per set and had nine service aces in four matches in the season-opening Towson Invitational.  She had 16 digs and four assists in the season-opening win over Saint Francis (PA) on Friday, then served a career-high six aces to go along with 17 digs in the victory over Coppin State.  Yamashiro ended the tournament with a 21-dig performance in the Jaspers’ 3-2 triumph over Delaware State on Saturday as the Jaspers went 3-1 on the weekend.

Rookie of the Week

Catie Harding – Rider

Fr., OH, 6-0, Kirkwood,MO/Kirkwood

In her first collegiate game, Harding earned all-tournament honors at The Courtyard by Marriott Maroon and Gray Invitational  as the Broncs went 2-2 on the weekend  with two wins over UMass Lowell. Harding averaged 4.0 points per set and compiled 3.47 kills per set and 1.82 digs per set and 0.47 blocks per set.

Her 17 kill, 11 dig effort against UMass Lowell on August 29 led the Broncs to a four-set victory. Harding had 15 kills, five digs and five blocks in a five-set loss to the host Hawks of UMES with Rider falling in the final set 16-14. Harding also had five service aces for the week and had 68 of Rider’s 379 points.
