Stripling, Rajovic, & Seferlis Named Wilson Players of the Week
MAAC Sports
Wilson Offensive Player of the Week
Colin Stripling - Monmouth
Jr., M, 6-2, Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood
Stripling scored three goals and added an assist on the week in the Hawks’ 4-1 win over Seton Hall and 2-0 win in the MAAC opener at Canisius. Against Seton Hall, Stripling got the Hawks’ scoring started, collecting a John Egan pass in the top left of the 18-yard box before beating Pirates goalkeeper Julian Spindler to the opposite upper 90. He then assisted on Dan Pizzimenti’s goal in the 60th minute, heading David Acuna Camacho’s free kick into the box on to Pizzimenti who flicked it over the goalkeeper and into the net. Stripling capped the day with a goal in the 64th minute, heading Derek Luke’s free kick into the box inside the near post past Spindler. At Canisius, Stripling and Danny Figarella got out on a two-on-one break toward the net, with Stripling collecting the rebound of Figarella’s shot and depositing it into the net to give Monmouth a 2-0 lead. The strong offensive week puts Stripling in the team lead in both goals (4) and points (10), while his two assists are tied for second on the team.
Wilson Defensive Player of the Week
Mark Rajovic – Marist
So., GK, 6-0, Katonah, NY/Fordham Prep
Rajovic made six saves in the Red Foxes’ 2-0 win at Rider on Sept. 26 to open up the conference season. The shutout was his second of the season and ninth of his career, which put him in third place on the program's all-time list.
Wilson Rookie of the Week
Aristotle Seferlis – Iona
Fr., F, 5-7, North Bergen, NJ/North Bergen
Seferlis had five points over the course of Iona's two wins this past week. Coming off the bench against the Yale Bulldogs, he scored both of the Maroon & Gold's goals which were the first two goals of his collegiate career; it was also his 18th birthday. His first was of the chip-in variety of an assist from Oscar Gonzalez, and his second came unassisted as he scored off a rebound of his own original shot, which turned out to be the game winner. Against Niagara, Seferlis' assist came on Iona's sixth goal of the contest.
