FAIRFIELD, Conn. – For the sixth time in the last seven seasons, the Fairfield women’s soccer program has been rewarded for their success in the classroom. The Stags were honored with a NSCAA Team Academic award, presented to each program around the nation who possesses a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.
“Once again a great honor to be recognized by the NSCAA as a top women’s soccer program,” Head Coach Jim O'Brien said. “We definitely stress the importance of academics within team and focus very heavily on recruiting top-level talent, not only on the field of play but also academically
The Stags earned a GPA of 3.40 and had 15 current returners average higher than a 3.30 GPA. Of those 15 returners, eight had a GPA of 3.5 or higher including: Jenna Pike (3.57 as an undecided major), Cassidy Boegel (3.60 as an Economics major and a Math minor), Sophia DeVita (3.65 as an Accounting major), Anna Borea (3.68 as a Politics major), Sydney Arestivo (3.7 as a Communications major), Pamela Coufos (3.85 as an English major and a Math minor), Katie Brady (3.91 as a Biology major), and Brenna Brown (3.97 as a Finance and Math major).
“It just continues the tradition of high expectations with our team and their academics,” Coach O’Brien said. “They older players, their work ethic in the classroom trickles down to the younger players. It continues throughout the years and this is why we have had such a consistent track record with success academically.”
The Stags are back in action at home as they re-open MAAC play on Wednesday against Manhattan at 7pm.
