Offensive Player of the Week
Allison Baligian, Rider
So., F, 5-0, Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central
Allison Baligian helped Rider to two road wins this past week with eight points (4 goals). At Columbia on September 5, Rider trailed by one with 17 minutes remaining in the game before Baligian scored twice, 43 seconds apart to give the Broncs a one-goal lead in the eventual 5-3 victory. At Vermont on September 6, Baligian had her second game-winner of the week, scoring twice as Rider won 6-1 to open the season 4-0. Baligian took eight shots on the week, five were on goal and four of the five found the back of the cage.
Defensive Player of the Week
Julie Laszlo, Monmouth
So., D, 5-8, Rotterdam, The Netherlands/Rotterdams Montessori Lyceum
Julie Laszlo efforts on both sides of the field helped give Monmouth its first two wins of the season. The defender got into the scoring mix, compiling four points on a goal and two assists. On Friday, following assisting on Casey Hanna’s marker in the 21st minute, Laszlo’s blast from the top of the circle put the Blue and White ahead, 4-1, in the 55th minute in an eventual 6-3 victory over Lehigh. Two days later, the defenders connected again as a low, hard shot from Laszlo was redirected by Hanna high into the netting for an insurance goal against Villanova. The sophomore connected on five shots over the weekend, three of which were on target.
Rookie of the Week
Angie Price, Rider
Fr., F, 5-3, Sydney, Australia/Clifton College
Coming off the bench twice for Rider this past week, Freshman Angie Price had a monster two games, scoring nine points for the week as the Broncs went 2-0 with both wins on the road. At Columbia on September 4, Price gave Rider a 1-0 and 2-1 lead and she assisted on the game-winning goal that broke a 3-3 tie. At Vermont on September 6, Price scored twice in Rider’s 6-1 victory at Vermont. For the week, Price had five shots on goal and four found the back of the cage.
